A massive earthquake with an initial magnitude of 8.8 has struck central Chile.
The quake struck at 0634 GMT (3:34 a.m. local time) about 91km (56 miles) north-east of the city of Concepcion and 317km south-west of the capital, Santiago.
Buildings in Santiago were reported to have shaken for between 10 and 30 seconds, with the loss of electricity and communications.
The US issued an initial tsunami warning for Chile, Peru and Ecuador.
That was later extended to Colombia, Antarctica, Panama and Costa Rica.

i hope these people are ok, the fact that some people may have survived the earthquake is good, now they need to get through a fucken tsunami. 2 maybe 3 earthquakes in 2 months, and no ones thinking anything about this!! the earth is obvs telling us something you geographic tools! I just really hope these people are ok!

122 deaths, im from chile and this shit was fucking scary!! i thought i was going to die, the earthquake lasted 2 minutes, but thanks god my family is ok

i love these idiots who talk so much about 2012. Listen the world isn't going to end in 2012. It was suppose to end in 2000 wasn't it? and it didn't. it won't end in 2012 either it's another for people to create entertainment and to distract you of your everyday problems. 2012 is coming and it will pass and nothing will happen. It will be another year that came and went and humans will remain here living. For all you who believe it will end do me a favor and give me your money/belongings in 2011
