The hellbender and Asian giant salamanders (family Cryptobranchidae) are aquatic amphibians found in brooks and ponds in the United States, China, and Japan. They are the largest living amphibians known today. The Japanese giant salamander (Andrias japonicus), for example, reaches up to 1.44 metres (4.7 ft), feeds on fish and crustaceans, and has been known to live for more than 50 years in captivity.[1] The Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) can reach a length of 1.8 metres (5.9 ft)

It said that they sleep all day, so i'm assuming that the salamander was tired and didn't feel like moving. And if i was that salamander i wouldn't really move either, because where would i go?

I don't think those stairs will help much because 1.water current still going down the stairs 2.salamander might not find the stairs 3.salamander able to crawl up the stairs?
They should probably breed some in the zoo just in case they go extinct in the wild.

yeah, i love how they think salamanders likes to use staircases like humans. if i was a salamander i would be like fuck, why didn't they build an underwater tube going up to the dam or more ramps.
